Do not believe the stock photos! This doesn't hold nearly as much as they make it look like it should. In the photos there is no way this box would close!I got this lock box so that I could leave it with my car for my husband. I wanted to leave 2 car keys and 1 fob. After stripping off they keychain, house key, and other things, I managed to get the two keys, fob, and keychain in the box if they were taken apart. But this is for an old Toyota. What about other things? I tried a garage door opener. No way.I tried the Audi key fob. Unfortunately it's just a little too wide in each direction. Too wide to be flat because the side walls come in and make it more narrow (whyyyy???). Too high on it's side because the box won't shut properly. So the answer is NO.I tried a keycard, and it fit. You could probably fit 2-3 before you would have problems shutting it. But it won't fit thicker or old-style ones, they need to be thin as a credit card and the same size.I then tried my Dodge key fob. It's even longer than the Audi one but I was hoping since one end is tapered it would fit. Nope. Again, too high on it's edge, too long for diagonal. If they had made straight walls both fobs might have fit (but not together). It will not fit an older 1996 BMW key. It's too long, the fob's too wide. It won't fit old ('95) Ford keys- they're too long and the plastic tops are too big. It will, however, fit a bunch of old '89 Chevy keys, the kind that were all metal, short, and you had separate door and starter keys. :) And house keys. But no keychains or keyrings, really. Then I threw in some actual measurement photos for you so you can see for yourself. There are two measurements across the box because those sides come in and make the box narrow. Really, the big part of the box is the only useful part. As you can see now, there is no way those stock photos with it full of fobs would actually let the lock box close. Anything that sticks up over that hinge, or anything that sticks up over the edges doesn't allow the box to work.I will keep the box because it actually does what I need it to do at this point in time. Luckily I need this for older car keys, because it won't fit newer ones. But I will keep looking for a secure key vault with larger capacity, made of metal, that you can't feel the combination on, that you can use the same numbers multiple times, that requires number order to matter, and doesn't have "how to lock pick it open" instructions on YouTube like the Master. Why is it so hard??Work great, well worth the price. Here are the PROs and CONs of this product...ADVANTAGES.1. Comparing it to competing brands and features, Vault Locks 5000 is superior..2. The entire housing opens like an oven door. The keys are presented in a deep tray - they do not fall to the ground..3. The lock's U yoke is encased in a vinyl sleeve as an added protection against the elements..4. The key storage is measured 2 3/4" x 1 5/16" x 2 7/8". That is enough space for several keys..5. In back of the lock is a rubber layer. If the device is attached to a door, the padding cushions the shock whenever the door opens and closes..6. You can set your own combination. The process is simple and fool-proof - five easy steps...DISADVANTAGES.1. To make it more ergonomically pleasing, the vendor shaped the lock into a "violin-like" design. The added curves reduced the storage size. A straight rectangular box would be more functional..2. The housing is 1/16" thick steel, and the two interior locking wedges are small. I doubt that the lock can survive a hammer blow. A more robust 3/32" or 1/8" thick housing and bigger locking wedges are needed..On the other hand, this argument may be mute. Common burglar tools include crowbars, lock picks, and large screw drivers to force open doors and windows. . . . How many thieves carry a large hammer to break open a storage lock box especially when not too many homes purchase and use such products..3. A thick black enamel is the only protection against the elements. Instead of mild steel, use stainless steel for the lock.amazing lock, just make sure to keep it clean and away from sand. the only problem that I had was when I did not use it and I fell in the water with my key fob and ruined my key which was costly. These are awesome -- it gives you more room to put keys inside than Masterlock's version and is cheaper. I've bought 30+ of these for our corporate housing company and haven't had any problems with them.9/23/16 update: I was just looking at my amazon reviews and came across this one and thought I'd give an update. I have approximately 40 of these and am very happy with them. Several of them have been kept outside attached to gates directly exposed to the rain for over a year. In most cases the number wheel is difficult to turn on one of these boxes that has been in the element but when I apply wd40 it loosens back up and spins fine. The lock boxes that have been in the elements for long periods of time all work fine still (after wd40) but obviously don't look as good.As mentioned, we're a corporate housing company. In some instances we will have a lock box on a gate with 30 other lock boxes. When I first wrote this review -- we were the only company in Houston that I saw using this lock box. Now I'm seeing more and more of them on gates. Others are figuring it out after they've seen mine and tried it themselves as these have a much bigger storage space than the Masterlock option. It rusted shut within a year. Doesn't withstand normal weather in Canada.Photos misleading. It's not as big inside as the photos make it look. It is built really well but it's just not as big as they make it out to be. 3 stars for quality of the build.Smaller than it looks bought to hold garage door opener and it wouldn't fit otherwise it's greatThis is great - so roomy on the inside to hold keys and chunky condo key fobs.Came on-time. Works well!
